Nandiki Gangadhar Reddy: A Visionary Entrepreneur, Technocrat, and Cultural Icon

Early Life and Education

Being the son of a bank officer who was frequently posted to remote corners of Odisha, Reddy’s early life was spent in small towns and villages across the state. This nomadic upbringing instilled in him adaptability, resilience, and an ability to engage comfortably with diverse environments and communities—qualities that would later define his leadership journey.

His education reflected the same geographic diversity:
– Balipadar – Primary schooling
– Harihar High School, Aska
– Jawahar Vidyapitha, Pipli
– AJO High School, Phulbani
– Government College, Phulbani – Intermediate studies

He went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) in 1993, setting the stage for his versatile and dynamic career.

Professional Beginnings

In 1995, Reddy joined Hindustan Shipyard Limited as a Management Trainee. At the time, with the looming Y2K crisis and a severe brain drain, trained technologists were in high demand. Reddy underwent extensive training in computer hardware and software applications related to shipbuilding—a rare and vital skill set in the industry at the time.

Academic Leadership

In 2000, Reddy became a founding member of the Jagannath Institute of Engineering and Technology (JIET) in Parlakhemundi, now known as Centurion University. He served as:
– Head of the Computer Science Department
– System Administrator
– Deemed Professor

His contributions were crucial in establishing the institution’s early infrastructure and academic direction, particularly in integrating computer science and systems education.

Industrial Transformation

In 2002, Reddy made a decisive move into industry by joining Balaji Spun Pipe and Industries as a partner. He spearheaded the transformation of the facility into an ISI-certified unit, helping the company cater to the World Bank-funded Puri Municipal Projects. His efforts led to Odisha’s first ISI-marked concrete pipe manufacturing unit, setting new standards for quality and compliance in the region.

Entrepreneurial Milestones

– In 2006, he founded the Biswakarma Group, launching Biswakarma Bricks and Blocks, which introduced high-quality fly ash brick production to the region.
– In 2008, he became Managing Director of Magnum Concrete Pvt. Ltd., where he set up a high-capacity fly ash brick plant with 1 lakh bricks per day, making it the largest in Eastern India at the time.
– In 2012, he established Vishwakarma Pipes and Concrete, further expanding into pipe manufacturing for infrastructure development.
– That same year, he founded Dongyue Engineering Pvt. Ltd., focused on research and development in the brick manufacturing domain. He collaborated with Dongyue Group of China, bringing in advanced German-Chinese hybrid technologies for block and brick production.

Technological Advancement and Skill Development

In 2017, Reddy launched Dongyue Engineering and Fabricators, a specialized venture for machinery fabrication, sales, marketing, and support, catering to India’s rapidly growing construction automation sector. This initiative strengthened India’s foothold in vibration-based fly ash brick technology, which Reddy has been pioneering since 2008.

Foray into the Entertainment Industry

Reddy’s creative flair came to light in 2018 with the launch of Donyou Entertainment, a film production company that produced the award-winning Odia film Champion. The company followed up with “Aapan Mane Khushi Ta”, a critically acclaimed movie known for its strong narrative and cinematic quality.

Today, Donyou Entertainment is one of Odisha’s leading production houses, known for:
– High-content Odia films
– Innovative music videos
– Technical and narrative excellence

Social Impact through Omrut Trust

In 2019, Reddy founded Omrut Trust, a non-profit organization focused on the upliftment of tribal communities in the Telkoi region of Keonjhar district. Under the SFURTI (Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries) initiative by the Government of India, Omrut Trust is establishing a mango to marine and mahua processing plant.

This transformative project aims to:
– Generate employment
– Promote agro-based entrepreneurship
– Revive traditional industries
– Empower neglected tribal populations

The plant is currently under installation and is expected to drive inclusive, sustainable development in the region.

From shipbuilding and software to bricks, pipes, films, and social reform, Nandiki Gangadhar Reddy is more than a businessman—he is a visionary force shaping the future of Eastern India. His journey reflects resilience, innovation, and service, making him a role model for entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and changemakers alike.
