Gang Behind Multiple Robberies Arrested
BHUBANESWAR: Eight men accused of robbing a liquor factory in Odisha’s Kalahandi district have been arrested, and ₹3.5 crore in cash has been recovered, police confirmed on Saturday.
Notorious Gang Linked to Multiple Crimes
The arrested individuals are suspected to be involved in at least a dozen dacoity cases across Jharkhand and Odisha.
Masked Robbers Held Employees Hostage
Kalahandi SP Abilash G stated that on Thursday night, the gang, armed with deadly weapons, stormed the Dharmagarh-based liquor factory, held employees at gunpoint, and looted a huge sum of money.
Seized Cash, Weapons, and Vehicles
Police recovered ₹3.51 crore in cash, firearms, and vehicles used in the robbery. The arrested men have been identified as Tahir Ansari, Hussain Khan, Jasim Khan, Shamim Ansari, Basudev Gope, Pintu alias Alim, Anuj Kumar, and Sameem Ansari from Ranchi.
Meticulous Execution: Tied Staff, Removed CCTV Footage
While two to three robbers looted the cash, others tied up the factory staff with ropes. They also removed the hard disk of the CCTV cameras before fleeing in an SUV.
Cross-State Police Coordination Leads to Arrests
Police initially apprehended two suspects, but the rest fled to Jharkhand. A joint operation involving 11 districts across Odisha and Jharkhand led to their final capture. The police forces of Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Rourkela, Gumla, Ranchi Rural, Lohardaga, West Singhbhum, and Simdega played a crucial role in the operation.
