Ryan Roy Shah: On a Mission to Develop Ratnagiri Football

Ryan Roy Shah is a UEFA B licensed football coach and IPSO Level 5 certified scout with a Master’s degree in Sports Science & High Performance and Postgraduate Diploma in Football Management. He currently lives in Pune and runs his club Pune Pioneers Football Club in Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Open Men’s and Open Women’s category.

He has shown a passionate interest in developing football in the district of Ratnagiri and has expressed his seriousness by registering a club called Ratnagiri Pioneers FC two years ago with the Football Association of Ratnagiri District, the official governing body of Ratnagiri football. They became champions of the Ratnagiri Super League in its debut season, 2022-23.

The coach also spent 3 days from 27th to 30th of October 2024 in the Sawarde Area of Chiplun, Ratnagiri District. He worked with 24 potential players in preparation for the upcoming Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter District Junior Boys Football Championship.

The Football Association of Ratnagiri District and its President Prasad (Kaka) Paranjape organized a residential football camp at the SVJCT Sports Academy, an 11-a-side grass football pitch with stands, an athletic track, residential and food facilities for the players and staff. At the end, 18 players were selected for the tournament and a captain was declared.

Coach Ryan conducted 5 training sessions in total, with double training sessions for the first two days and a single training session on the third day. Typically, training would be conducted from 6:30AM to 9:30AM in the morning and 4:30PM to 6:00PM in the evening, with a 30-minute classroom session from 4 to 4:30PM, prior to the evening session. The coach worked on the players basic ball mastery, team shape, purposeful possession, crossing and finishing, 1v1 defending and set pieces.

According to our sources, the players displayed tremendous professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the camp and were highly satisfied with the training received.

Ryan Roy Shah said of the camp, “the players of Ratnagiri district are very passionate about their football and are quick learners. We have a fantastic President in Kaka Paranjape. I wish to take his support and provide a platform for the players of Ratnagiri district to flourish and elevate Ratnagiri on the national football map”.

Ryan has huge plans to develop football in the district and upon an informal discussion, he said he wishes to strengthen every squad that goes for district level tournaments. He wishes to add more local players to his Ratnagiri Pioneers squad and provide them with opportunities of exposure outside the district.

He also mentioned that his dream is to eventually purchase land in the region to develop a full-sized pitch and provide professional standard training to males and females of every age group. Ryan also wishes to offer his expertise to conduct leagues and tournaments on behalf of the district.

Ryan said of the region, “I fell in love with the area the moment I arrived. The scenery, people, food and culture is truly phenomenal. I can see a football revolution happening in Ratnagiri with just a bit of support from the local schools and enthusiasm from the local footballers. Our association President is always open to new ideas. My first priority would be to enhance participation in the sport from local players”.

We are excited to see what Ryan can execute to elevate the standards of Ratnagiri football.

The 18-man squad for the tournament is finalized and the squad will be led by Prasad (Kaka) Paranjape and Vinod Dada Mhaske.
