Since 2017, the Uboontu Foundation has emerged as a quiet force leading a significant shift in environmental awareness and waste management across urban communities. Inspired by the African philosophy of “humanity towards others,” the foundation integrates sustainable practices with education to foster meaningful change at the local level.
Under the guidance of Founder and CEO Tanmay Sharma and Director Manoj Kumar, the foundation has launched a series of practical, community-driven programs. These initiatives emphasize proper waste segregation, responsible disposal habits, and the adoption of circular economy principles.
Recently, the foundation has expanded its on-ground presence with targeted outreach activities. A standout effort includes a source segregation training workshop conducted for the kitchen team at Quality Inn Hotel in Gurgaon. This initiative addressed the often-overlooked role of the hospitality industry in urban waste and aimed to instill eco-conscious habits among staff.
In a separate endeavor to promote sustainability in commercial environments, Uboontu Foundation collaborated with DLF Mall. Together, they demonstrated how waste can be repurposed into valuable items. As part of the campaign, recycled pens and A4 papers—crafted from waste gathered at the mall—were handed out to mall staff, serving as a concrete example of circular economy at work.
One of the foundation’s most successful recent initiatives is the Manbhar Swach waste collection campaign, supported by HMEL. This community-centric drive significantly improved local waste segregation practices and motivated residents to become active participants in creating cleaner living spaces.
Education continues to be a cornerstone of Uboontu’s mission. As part of the Manbhar Swach campaign, the organization ran a series of awareness workshops for both children and adults. These interactive sessions helped participants understand the environmental impact of their daily choices and encouraged simple but impactful behavior changes.
With multiple projects lined up, the Uboontu Foundation remains committed to building a culture of collective environmental responsibility. By engaging people directly at the source of waste generation, the foundation offers a scalable and effective model for sustainable living in Indian cities.
