New Delhi, September 02, 2024: In a heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity, two Indian para-athletes, Vinai Kumar Kush and Krishna Kumar Samania, have won bronze medals at the International Canoeing & Kayaking Sprint Goodwill Cup in Moscow, Russia. What makes their achievement even more remarkable is that they come from underprivileged sections of society and couldn’t afford to participate without the support of HEAL Foundation.
On the glorious win of Indian para canoe players, Shri Harsh Malhotra, Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs & Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, remarked, “Their victory is a testament to their determination and hard work. Vinai, a para canoe player from Bhajanpura, Delhi, who juggles a modest job with his sports career, secured two bronze medals in the 200m and 500m kayaking events. His achievements at the Moscow Goodwill Cup add to his growing accolades, including medals at the International World Dragon Boat Championship in Pattaya, Thailand. Similarly, Krishna, a small salon owner from Madanpur Khadar, New Delhi, who practises at the Wazirabad Water Sports Club, brought home a bronze medal in the 200m canoeing event, further solidifying his reputation after winning gold and bronze at the same championship in Pattaya.
The duo’s victory is a testament to the potential of Indian para-athletes and the importance of providing them with the necessary resources and support to compete at the highest level.
