Kainaaz and Tina Mesman’s Theobroma: A Rs 3,500 Crore Success Story
“If you have the will, you can achieve the impossible.” This statement rings true for two sisters from Mumbai, Kainaaz and Tina Mesman, who turned their passion for baking into a Rs 3,500 crore business empire.

How Theobroma Was Born

The journey of Theobroma, one of India’s most renowned bakery brands, began in a small room in 2004. The brand’s name, derived from Greek, means “food of the gods” (“Theos” meaning “God” and “broma” meaning “food”). Today, it stands as a testament to hard work, resilience, and determination.

Early Influences and a Life-Altering Incident

Growing up in a family passionate about food, Kainaaz developed an early love for cooking. A trip to France at 16 sparked her dream of becoming a chef. After completing her education at the Institute of Hotel Management in Mumbai and training at Le Cordon Bleu, Kainaaz worked as a pastry chef at Hotel Oberoi Uday Vilas, enjoying her dream career.

However, tragedy struck when a road accident left her with severe injuries. At just 24, doctors told her that she could no longer work as a chef due to the profession’s physically demanding nature. This devastating news forced her to leave her job, but it did not deter her spirit.

The Leap into Entrepreneurship

Determined to keep her culinary dreams alive, Kainaaz decided to start her own bakery. With the unwavering support of her sister Tina, the duo founded Theobroma in 2004.

A Family-Funded Dream

Their father provided an initial funding of Rs 1.5 crore, helping them turn their vision into reality. What started as a small bakery has now grown into a massive enterprise valued at Rs 3,500 crore, with 225 outlets across India.

An Inspirational Legacy

Over the past two decades, Kainaaz and Tina have transformed Theobroma into a household name in India’s bakery industry. Their journey from a small room to a nationwide brand serves as a powerful inspiration for women entrepreneurs everywhere.
