GRACE Foundation Announces a ‘First of its kind’ National Contest for Young Indian Classical Vocalists

Gunijaan Research Art Culture and Education (GRACE) Foundation is launching the “Gunijaan Bandish Pratiyogita,” a pan-India classical singing contest. On the occasion of the birth centenary of renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Padmabhushan Pandit C.R. Vyas.

This talent hunt is curated by Shashi Vyas, founder of GRACE Foundation and son of Pandit C.R. Vyas, and ideated by Aparna Kelkar, a senior disciple of Pandit C.R. Vyas. The contest aims to provide a platform for promising singers of Indian classical music between the ages of 16 and 30. Participants will compete in male and female categories, performing bandishes composed by the legendary maestro. Winners in each category will be awarded substantial cash prizes. This contest is managed by Pancham Nishad.

About Pandit C.R. Vyas:

Known as “Gunijaan” in the music world, Pandit C.R. Vyas was a towering figure in Hindustani classical music. Celebrated for his expressive voice and emotive renditions, he composed over 200 bandishes that remain popular among classical musicians. His contributions to music have been recognised with many honours, including the Padma Bhushan.
